Tesco Direct - A plastic bag is fine!

Tesco direct have just delivered today what they said would be delivered on Saturday. I had ordered an Ipod touch and adjustable wrench - I know, not a natural combination.
These had been placed in a plastic bag with no packaging to protect the Ipod other than it's plastiuc case. The wrench has gone, due to a hole in the bag.
I have just complained to Tesco who tell me they only use plastic bags for packaging. I find this amazing. How can any retailer send sensitive electronic items other than in a cardboard box and then put a wrench in the same bag.
I have asked for the item to be exchanged for a properly packaged item and am waiting for a manager to phone me back.
Has anyone had the same experience?

I'm confused what are you requesting to be properly packaged the Ipod or the wrench or both ?
If its the Ipod then why, Is it physically damaged ,does it not work ?"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

As the Ipod is a Christmnas present I don't feel I can open the seals and packaging.
Putting a heavy wrench in a pastic bag with an Ipod with no protective packaging in my opinion is not appropriate protection for the Ipod. To have the wrench escape shows the bag is not appropriate for the packaging. I am not that concerned about loosing the wrench as Tesco have refunded it.
My concern is that the Ipod touch was not suitably packaged which was exaserbated by putting a heavy steel item in the same bag. Personally I would not put an Ipod Touch into a plastic bag and send it by a courier where it is going to be thrown around.0 -
I see your point about the wrench chris, but the ipod will be just fine. Ipods are designed to be thrown around with movement. They are perfectly fine for use when jogging etc so the movement of it within a bag will do it no harm whatsoever.
As long as the hard plastic box the ipod comes in is undamaged it will be fine.0 -
I had some cdr's delivered in just a plastic bag (took over a week as they got lost) , the spool was smashed to bits, luckily the cd's were ok, Tesco did refund the £4.85 delivery charge (i only paid £2.45 as i ordered a sim) and half the price of the CD's back which was just over £4.
There packaging is terrible i agree, as ive had other items packaging damaged in the past, every time i just ring and complain and get a discount and delivery refunded0 -
I have been looking at the Apple website. Their returns procedure details:
"2. Remove the large piece of foam inside the box. Lift out the small foam cutout and insert your iPod in its place. Replace the large piece of foam on top of your iPod. Close the box. "
They obviously think Ipods are a little more sensitive in the hands of a courier. No callback from Tesco so hopefully the Ipod will work.0
