Our Wedding Plans

As announced here on the Bankruptcy board Toon_Dave proposed to me last weekend :T and now that the family have been told we've announced it on the forum that we met on :j

What have we got left to do?? Everything!!! It has to be in true MSE style with lots of bartering and bargain hunting. We haven't got the engagement rings yet as we plan to get them in the sale (and hopefully get a bargain).

We're hoping to get married sometime over the bank holiday in August 2009, depending on what's available and what the costs are but bookings aren't likely to be made until the end of January when we get paid again. However January will be spent drawing up a 'to do' list and looking at possible venue's.

We also met here on the MSE forum and our wedding has been done in true MSE style;)

You need to decide on a budget.... we've now spent just over £700 (which is actually a bit more than we wanted to spend).

If you want any advice on anything just ask:)

Less than 2 days to go:eek:

    Thanks everybody :j

I'm still having to pinch myself to believe that it's real. We're getting married in the North East if anybody knows of any bargains to be had around here.

I think we can shave money off most areas of the arrangements:

Cars - we intend to get taxis or lifts from friends
Flowers - I'm going to go for a hand tied bouquet which I'll do myself with a smaller version for my 2 bridesmaids (my 2 daughters)
Dresses - Both mine and the bridesmaid's dresses will come from one of the chinese companies.
Mens Suits - Will be bought from eBay or in the sales.
Stationary - I'll be making that myself
Cake - I'll be making that too (intending to do cup cakes)
Room Decorations - will be minimalistic and probably from Ikea or similar
Service - Registry Office (my 2nd time)

The two places where I'm going to struggle getting any bargains are the reception and photographer. I would love to have an afternoon and evening reception but think it's going to be very unlikely and am considering inviting very few to the actual wedding putting nibbles and drinks on at home and then a party in the evening where we can invite as many as possible.

We are hoping to book a honeymoon just a few days beforehand so that we can get as much of a bargain as possible.

We're hoping to get married bank holiday weekend and don't have any preference over Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday depending on what is available at local venues.

    Congratulations :j:j:j

I shall have to have a look through your posts to see what bargains you managed to get ;)

I'm off work for the next couple of weeks so I shall be getting my 'planning book' a large glass of something nice and reading lots and lots of tips and suggestions on the board.

Looking forward to getting to know you all a lot more :D

    Hello and congratulations!
I got my wedding dress from Milly Bridal. Don't wear it until March though.
Have to say they were absolutely fantastic. They made me a custom dress from pictures I sent to them, and sent me regular updated pics. I found fault with every pis to be honest, but they just kept re altering it until I was happy, and no extra charges. I also got my chief bridesmaid dress from them too, which has loads of detailing and is absolutely gorgeous.
