Confused about Life Assurance Brokers

On reading the posts and Martins info about Decreasing Life Assurance I went to the Cavendish website and liked the quote that I got online and now have received a paper quote from Life Policies Direct. it will save me on my monthly payments.. but I am confused about the Fee that Martins article says is payable to Cavendish Brokers as there is no mention of this in the paperwork sent to me.... I just have the feeling I have been hijacked somewhere along the line .......... as an adviser with Life/PD has already phoned me to ask if I want to go ahead with this policy.... I did fill in all the quote paperwork on the Cavendishonline site but somehow ended up with the quote from Life Policies Direct . CONFUSED I AM......

I don't want to make a big mistake by changing from Nationwide Life , my Mortgage is (£35.000 over 10yrs with Nationwide) , the DLA is currently costing me £42.48 a month no Terminal Illness cover and the quote from Life/PD is for a Scottish Equitable policy with Terminal Illness cover included costing £25.70 seems a good saving but as usual financial stuff is left up to me to sort out I don't want to change only to find I have done the wrong thing.....

Life policies direct appears to be a totally different company to Cavendish. Did you perhaps get online quotes from them as well?

Be a little wary of Scot Eq. Their underwriting dept is notoriously slow and even their own representative told me not too long back that they don't really care for life assurance as its not part of their core business.

I am certain that I only filled in one quote as went directly to the Cavendish site via the link on Martins info page , thats why I am so confused ... I will go back to the Cavendish online site and have another go at getting the quote from them.....

I have just filled in the Cavendish online quote and when I clicked on the 'get quote' button I am then presented with a list of quotes and I have to pick the one that I like the look of .. which is what I did before , you then proceed to another page where you put in more details and so on......... so I am still confused as to why I have not received a quote from Cavendish online... but instead got one from Scottish Eq VIA Life Policies Direct...

I also deliberately did not include my phone number as I did not want people bothering me ... but the guy from Life Policies Direct rang me anyway...

I am I just being DENSE.......? forgive me if I seem not to know my a--e from my elbow.........

Somehow they knew your details and I guess knew the figures. Perhaps you could ask them where they got all that information from?

  • Hi Tanith, I am a Director of Life Policies Direct. To get a quote from us you must have filled in a request form on either our site or one of our partners, we do not send out unsolicited quotes. We do not have any links with Cavendish either. If you want to conatct me off list I would be delighted to resolve this for you.

Scottish Equitable are actually very quick and one of our best providers at turning around life insurance applications, third in our league table behind Friends Provident and Bright Grey so you shouldnt have any problems with them.

Come back to us if you need us, the SE policy should be every bit as good at your existing Nationwide one and cheaper as well by the sounds of it.

Experience with companies is a personal thing. However, when the Scot Eq representative acknowledges they have problems and apologises and suggests I don't use them for cases that are likely to end up underwritten, then you do have to be wary.

I tend to buck the usual trend though and find NU service to be first rate. Not many advisors would say the same.
