firefox 3 freezing

I recently upgraded from firefox 2 to firefox 3 and although I like the look and way it works it keeps freezing my pc.
I've used firefox for a long time and not had a problem before and I only upgraded after firefox announced that there would be no more support for firefox 2.
Are there still inherent faults with 3??;)
Any suggestions/advice please?
I haven't installed anything else and my pc is not infected.

What have you used to check your computer is uninfected?
Ive never had a problem with Firefox 3 personally (Had a bit of an issue with firefox 2 which I eventually managed to fix)
Im going to second guess that if its not an infection, then its some 'add ons' youve installed into it?
Does it work ok n its own 'safe mode'? (Goto the firefox folder, the safe mode version is in the start program list):idea:0 -

I have a full version of eset nod 32 smart security installed and I have no add ons.
I'm not going to start messing about with the folders as this problem started as soon as I upgraded--what I might do is uninstall completely and start again with a fresh installation, and if that doesn't work I will go back to firefox 2 for as long as I can.---it would be a shame though because f/f 3 seems a good bit faster than 2.:D0 -
Its possible that the installaton of firefox 2 has upset the installation of firefox 3
Id suggest uninstalling both. Run CCLEANERS registry cleaner (2nd option down)
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
Then reinstall firefox 3
If that doesnt work then you could try creating a differnt profile (Which is what fixed 'my' problem)

The default configuration of Firefox 3 is also rather extravagant in the way it uses memory. In my case it would grow to consume over 2Gb of memory and swap file over a period of a few hours, making the PC unusably slow.
I fixed that by installing a Firefox variant called Swiftfox, but that's only available for Linux.
However, the following article has a very good guide on changing half a dozen settings in FF to make it less memory-hungry:

Are you on version 3.0.5 ?
From Firefox
Press Alt H A
or
click Help and select About Moxilla Firefox to check your version.
Firefox 3 crashed a few times for me until version 3.0.5 was automatically installed a few days ago and it has been fine since.0 -
I regularly had problems with Firefox 3 freezing my PC (only a 1.4Ghz, bit old these days) such that I couldn't do anything.
In the end I figured out it only happened on certain web pages and even then only irregularly. I eventually traced the cause of the problem to a specific set of Adobe Flash based adverts present on those specific web pages. I think the ads were for Sky TV. Whenever those exact adverts appeared my CPU went to 100% and my PC completely stopped working. I had to kill Firefox with the task manager to get control of my PC back.
I fixed the problem by using adblock extension (removes adverts) and blocking adverts from "doubleclick.net" who were supplying the Sky TV ones. Problem went away as soon as I started doing that and it's been perfect ever since.

I thought that when I updated to f/f 3.0.5. it would overwrite the old firefox
If I uninstall both won't I lose all my bookmarks and passwords etc?:eek:0 -

You can save your bookmarks...If I uninstall both won't I lose all my bookmarks and passwords etc?
Select Bookmarks / Organise Bookmarks / Import and back up / Export HTML
Save the file as “bookmarks.html” and note the location.
Then you can remove Firefox and reinstall it
Then do as above but this time Import HTML.0
