we currently have a HUGE tv on our dining room table and i would like to get an lcd tv for the wall, however we get a very poor signal at the moment using a separate freeview box and a MAGIC WAND aerial. Its great when you get the signal but some days i spend more time moving it around than the kids spend watching the TV
so will the lcd with built in freeview still need an aerial (im guessing yes)
and can anyone recommend a strong indoor aerial/signal booster ??
TIA

Hi,
some freeview boxes get "old" and don't work as good as they used to so the new LCD with the new built in freeview may do the job... but if you are still having problems the best thing to do is find a way to extend you aerial from the roof in to this room.
It's easy, you can drop it from the roof next to the window and drill through,
or run it from Lounge along side your skirting boards (you can get different color cable).
In any case some days freeview is not the best, last week Xfactor Final could not be seen with my freeview box, the next day all was fine.
if you still want to add an Aerial and booster' just get any +20db amp from your local Maplin, and you can return it and get a refund if it does'nt help you
try this link from Maplin £24.99 (not cheap but good) LINK0 -
You will get a much better signal with and outdoor aerial.
Is this not an option?0 -
I'm not techie at all so please wait for other replies but just wanted to tell you of my experience with use of this.
I bought a signal ariel booster for my LCD tv in the kitchen, freeview through a set top box and not built in. The booster cost £50 was supposed to be the next best thing to sliced bread but was infact as much use as a chocolate teapot.
My son's freeview upstairs worked on a £6 aeriel from woolworths and was perfect. Deducing from that I ran a lead right through the house and put booster ariel upstairs in my bedroom and that improved the picture but still not brilliant so then just attached a £6 ariel and it was absolutely perfect.
Obviously having a lead trail right through the house and upstairs was not a great solution so we've had a wire fitted out of the bedroom right round the outside of the house and back into the kitchen.
I can only think that downstairs has poor reception due to fences, trees, houses etc blocking the signal and that being upstairs gives height to clear that or that my kitchen faces the wrong direction as it's at the front of the house and my bedrooms at the back.
My son now has a TV with built in freeview and it still needs an ariel.
This is just my own experience, I don't advocate drilling walls, just because it worked for me, so please hang on for other much more sound advice.0 -
Good quality Co-ax (aerial wire) is also a good idea to have. As you look at it end on it should have a thickish copper screen (lots of thin copper wires) and a white foam looking bit around the central core, a plastic 'honeycomb' looking bit is not good......0

Depending on the location, an external aerial is the only option for most people, an indoor aerial is not really suitable, nor will any booster normally make much difference.
People spend £300/£500 on a TV, but will not spend a £100 on a proper aerial.0 -
If the tv is 32" or over then id really recommend a decent outdoor aerial. Its possible to recieve freeview with an internal aerial (Depending on conditions) but it will be full of digital 'errors' and the bigger the screen, the worse it will look.:idea:0
