Is there a way to do this?

I don't know if there is away to do this but if anyone knows you guys will!

Ive got a stereo that can convert cds, tapes etc into mp3's

I have plugged my turntable in and converted some of my old LP's, but they are really quiet. Is there a way of making them louder?

Many thanks

  • best way is to use a pre-amp between the turntable and the stereo, or a turntable with one built in. you can d/load apps which will increase the volume of MP3 files, but you will also increase the noise.

To follow on from what DatabaseError has said above.
A program that you can try is 'MP3gain'.
By default it's set at 89dB, but you could increase that number and see how it sounds. It may just increase the hiss and cause distortion - but there's only one way to find out.
    MP3gain is a free download from here:-http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/index.php

  • Thanks guys - I knew someone would be able to help
  • It's not just gain you need to fix... there's an EQ issue too... the output from a non-pre-amped turntable has relatively loud high end and relatively little bass. The RIAA equalisation curve fixes this (old amplifier units with phono inputs did this.)... much better to sort it with a dedicated hardware turntable pre-amp than in software.
