Carolan78 what is hubby doing now ?? I am a bricklayer myself curious. I have been ranting on here about the Polish and other Eastern Europeans for a while now, some of it was removed. When they have been living a dozen to a house they will work for less. And then send the bulk of the money back to Poland etc so it is not re spent here. If we went over there they would throw their teddies big time after they milked this country dry. It was a huge mistake letting them in and now we are paying for it.
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.
  • Why do they get the jobs ahead of you guys then? Better quality? Or is it just that they work for minimum wage? Or they are harder workers?

There must be reasons our workforce is being overlooked in favour of in this case the poles?

Sorry thanked you but meant to hit quote.

He has gone back to aircraft, he wasn't a bricklayer he was a shutterer same industry though and roughly same wages. I agree the Ploeish made a huge impact on the wages you could earn...but if you put the boot on the other foot you have to admit you would have done the same thing!

My husbands only grip was the fact they can not speak English 99% of the time...this causes major saftey issues that nobody seems to give a toss about. If a foreign worker sees something is about to fall on you and starts shouting how are you going to know you need to run?

As for them milking the country dry....they have simply played a system we left open to them and again put the shoe on the other foot! It's not our fault our government seem to have bent over backwards for everyone else bar their own! When you start to feel the hatred you may feel for other nationalities/religions don't look at them and get angry, look at those that are letting the system be abused by all not just other nationalities. The onus will always lay with them not the man on the street.

All down to wages, they are (WERE) happy to undercut whatever it took to earn, 12 to a house = not much to pay each. Spend at their own shops. And fk me I was in a card shop today and there was even Polish greetings cards on the shelf I couldn't beleive it. Oh and a friend of ours who works in benefits office is expected to learn basic Polish as they are being hit by the C C like the rest of us, and after all they have paid in to the system (NOT) and dragging their parents over to look after the new born kids they will be having straining the N H S, but as I said they paid in. Didn't they?????? Oh no never mind. Thanks for that...

mrs b.....you will not believe this but it is very cold and we have not had a good days weather in 11 days and has been like it for 6 weeks......very windy and i am not a happy chappy....;)
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

As infuriating as it is it is still not their fault our system is open to the abuse...put the shoe on the other foot and you would do it too and FYI a lot of the polish work through and agency it is them that undercut the wages have you seen what an agency pays these days you'll be lucky to get £8 an hour.

There are no laws stating they have to spend their cash in the UK they earn it so really they can do what they like with it. It is still the government where your anger should be directed.

Carolan I agree. Agencies are another factor that has been a thorn in the side of the construction industry for some time now. I hope those that leached off the trade in recent years go to the wall asap. And the Poles go home. It is our system that has been open for massive abuse as it has in many walks of life, you can see it, I can see it but the ones that need to see it have blinkered vision. But whatever happens they will be alright. Jobs for the boys.
