  • Unemployment up by 2 Million, primarily amongst the trades, retail and manufacturing.
House prices 15% down on what they are now
Large numbers of retailers - gone..
    Manufacturing and industry in tatters
Crime, suicide, civil unrest and social dysfunction rising
    Greedy people blaming everyone else
Creeping taxation - VAT 20% etc..
Fuel prices starting to creep up
UK plunging apparently needlessly in to a fresh conflcit

Then in 2010 the recession will really start to kick in!

Right you lot, now stop it - you're scaring the children.

2009. Good Xmas first, then look forward to Spring, longer days and good weather. In January Obama gets in properly, stock markets rocket and the good companies start to get their act together. Turns out, amazingly, that Darling was right about second half recovery - and we end 2009 mostly with a sigh of relief, finances in better shape and hope for the future.

You can quote me in twelve months if I'm wrong - if that's the case I shall be past caring.

The car industury is asking the government to step in. My husband is a brick layer. The consruction industry hasn't had a hand out. I'm !!!!!!! mad.

The construction industry not having a hand out....what a joke!

I would call a 1 year college course followed by spending the next decade on £350 a day (plus cash in hand jobs at the weekend) the biggest hand out since !!!!!! Turpin!

I would just love a bunch of builders to actually try and put a rational case forward to the government for a bail out, that would be hilarious...:rotfl:

  • Where will we be in 12 months time, who knows? But isn't that the same for any Year? I believe the Internet, while extremely useful, also allows the more doomish amongst us to wind everyone up and spread despondency thus increasing the problem. This facility , of course, was not available in the 70's,80's and 90's.

If you want my predictions for 2009
    • House prices continue to fall for a while then bottom out through the summer and then slowly start to pick up (way to much pent up demand)
    • Unemployment to rise to 1.75m (using the claimant count used in other recessions for comparison) but then levelling out.
    • Oil to start rising slowly.
    • Brown to win the next election in the summer by a narrow margin.
    • Repossesions to rise a amount before lenders see that that option is neither viable or politically welcome
I don't buy all these armageddon theories, basically people will not put up with what they would have done 20 years ago so something will happen to stop them.

I seem to remember in July people saying Oil is going to hit $200 dollars a barrel and inflation will go through the roof, whither now that prophecy?
    The World come on.....
