Hi,
I need some help please - I have compaq Laptop for the last 4 years. I have a cover plan with Tech Guys. Around 2 months ago my hard disk gone faulty so I phoned Tech Guys and they arranged collection through Teleplan. The hard disk was replaced and sent back to me.
Now I'm having more problems - whenever I try to do more technical things e.g. editing a photo through Kodak Easyshare or using Photoshop - the software automatically closed and message appears Virtual memory low.
I know I have enough memory (640MB) because I use to edit photos & videos previouly without any problems. Also my fan makes noices when using photoshop or Kodak. I think when the fan makes noices, it uses all the memory and stops me doing anything more technical. Also my laptop heats up.
I explained this to Tech Guys and they arranged pick up through cover plan - laptop picked up around 9/12 and delived back to me on 17/12. Teleplan said there was nothing wrong with the laptop.
I complained to Tech Guys and they can only re-arrange collection.
What should I do?
Thanks
M

is your virtual memory set too low ?? go check it, and set it to system managed, that should take care of it.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Google finds lots of guidance on how to configure Virtual Memory if you get that error. E.g.:
http://askbobrankin.com/low_virtual_memory.html
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826513
http://www.askdavetaylor.com/how_can_i_fix_too_little_virtual_memory_in_windows.html0 -
Initially do the following:
- Click Start, then open the Control Panel.
- Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Under Performance, click Settings.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Under Virtual memory, click Change.
- Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file (virtual memory) settings that you want to change. In almost every case, this will be your C: drive.
- Click to select the "System managed size" option, then click Set.
- Click OK three times and restart your computer.
If problems persist then
- Run CCleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/
- Run a windows update http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
- Run an anti-virus scan (http://www.free-av.com/), anti-spyware scan (http://www.superantispyware.com/) and anti-malware scan (http://www.malwarebytes.org/)
- Go to Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs and uninstall anything not needed.
- Investigate msconfig http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/
And if you're still receiving the message, which I'm sure you won't be by this point, then buying extra RAM will sort it out.0
