Home networking problems (XP)

Options
Hi :hello:

I know I've asked this question before some time ago and managed to get the answers I was looking for, and I've tried to search for the thread again but to no avail, so apologies for asking this again but I need help! :o

I've recently added another PC to my network, and as far as setting it up on the router and getting internet connection etc, all went well and only took a few minutes to do. The problems started when I decided yesterday to connect it to the PC network for printer/file sharing etc and I seem to have run into exactly the same problems as I had last year when I added my younger son's PC, but can't for the life in me remember how I resolved it in the end :o

I'll tell you exactly what I did, and the results of that, so you can see if I've missed out a step or where I've gone wrong again. BTW, I'm running XP Pro and Zone Alarm on all three PC's and they're all independantly connected to the internet via my Netgear router.

First step was to input the IP addresses of each PC into the trusted zone on ZA so I know it isn't the firewall blocking it (XP firewall is switched off).

Then I ran the network wizard on the new PC. Having done this I clicked on "view workgroup computers" but it only showed that computer and not mine (the second PC is out of the loop at moment due to monitor problems so wasn't switched on). I then checked on my PC and could "see" the third one but couldn't access it when I clicked on it - access denied.

I then decided to run the network wizard on my PC to see if it would solve the problem, only I think I've made things worse as now I can't even access the workgroup at all - access denied see administrator blah blah blah, but I am the administrator LOL!

Help! :o

Oooooops I feel a bit silly now :o

Whilst I had scanned and installed all the current updates for XP on the new PC, I hadn't realised it hadn't yet installed SP2  - done that and restarted it and network all sorted out now :D
