Hi all,
Just curious to know whether anyone has experienced this. My stepson is 17 and into the first year of his A-levels. We voluntarily pay maintenance for him and his sister, the court order states that this shall be 'till the end of full time secondary education or the age of 18. It is possible that he may fail all of his A-levels (hopefully not) - he is also resitting his english GCSE. Does anyone know that if he takes anymore course come september we will have to foot the bill further than the original A-level term?
Don't get me wrong, i love my stepson and want him to do well, but we also have a toddler of our own and money is tight. We want to fulfill our obligations but not the ex's purse  He is not really academic, but has gone this route thanks to a fair bit of 'mother input'. Any opinions would be welcome,
Thanks

I think it has to do with when child benefit ends. Have a look on the benefits web site or give them a ring.
Once they turn 18 they are an adult, but they get child benefit/tax credits until they leave 6th form.So I would say that once the goverment don`t pay you don`t have too.plus if he does fail, and as you say he is not really academic, he might not want to retake. Maybe he could get a part time job in the hol`s? Once he is used to getting some money, it might encouarge him to work full time-rather than study?
