big network problems here!

hi
ive looked through previous posts but cannot find a similar one to mine.

ive been on 3 different forums upto now and not had one reply about my problem with my wireless network - please can someone on here help me out. it really is driving me mad now

got my new laptop yesterday and i eventually got my wireless network working.

gone to use the laptop today and its all gone wrong.

basically, im getting the connected to network icon but i cannot access my desktop from laptop and vice versa and i also not getting my internet connection on the laptop.

i have discovered that when i restart my laptop, its seems to find the network, but will not connect properly and i have use the set up a network option on both the desktop and the laptop over and over until it finally works.

i hope this makes sense to you. surely every time i turn my laptop on it should fully connect to my network and recognise the shared internet connection straight away without me having to spend hours getting it going again.

im at the end of my tether and im at the stage of wishing i never bothered with it - please, someone help me calm down and sort this out.

    Virus checked

disabled firewall when trying to connect on the local network

Tried pinging each machine from the other one

what happens if you try an IPCONFIG ? are you getting the right IP's for each?

any error messages on boot up?

System restore to before it happened?

Have you uninstalled all network conponents and tried re-installing? especially TCP/IP? (can't remember what you said cos Bellion scored)
  • Are both machines using same operating system?

I had similar problem what i had to do was go into the connection and find the other pc sometimes only on one but if not both and then it would work fine.

I had a similar problem with my wireless network. PC & Laptop would initially see each other then connection would drop off almost immediately.

Set it up over and over again, and banged my head against the wall.

I then changed the wireless network channel from 11 to 2 and it has worked fine ever since. No probs at all.

If you post an exact list of the things you have done to set it up then this will narrow down the problem considerably.
