Hi,
I have a Vaux Astra 52 reg, jsut wondering how much should I expect to pay for a car service?

My apologies for the lack of details but next month will be the first ever time I've had my car serviced and I'm not sure what to expect as far as price boundaries are concerned.

Thanks.

You can shop around of course
  • I just had my x reg astra serviced and moted for £135 at a Masterfit Garage. It is cheaper for models older than 5 years I think, just so they can stay competitive (that's what the bloke said when I booked it, anyway!). Didn't need any work doing either, which is always nice!

I got my old punto serviced at an aa service centre for £85 a couple of years back.

How long is a piece of string?

To get a car serviced properly, and this includes old ones, you need to know what bits need doing that year. Eg oil filter every year/10k miles but air filter every 2 years, cambelt every 40k etc.

That's the problem with going to a different garage each time -- your trusted backstreet place will know what needs to be done from past experience with the car.

Generally though for a basic service (no exceptional parts required) factor in about £80-100 at a backstreet, £150 or so at a main dealer for a typical hatch (like an Astra).
