Incapacity Benefit

Ive been on this benefit for a year now and was wondering how long I would qualify for it?

I gave up work last year due to health reasons and was awarded this straight away and only had to hand in a few sicknotes from Doctor.

I have recently been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia with numerous associated symptoms and my quality of life is seriously affected. I have been awarded low rate Care and Mobility DLA also.

I don't think there is a time limit on IB claims, although they may require you to attend a medical to see if their doctors think you are capable of some work.

This applies to ESA claimants, IB claimants still take the PCA medical and either pass or fail.

Sorry - I guess my post was worded a bit ambiguously.....

What I meant by "some" work, was capable of work even if it's not what you were doing at the time you were signed off. I had a lengthy period of sick leave due to back problems, and had I been in a manual job I'd have fully expected to be "passed fit" for office work. But as I was signed off from office work this was more tricky.

In the final event, when I went back it was with a proviso I could get up and wander around a lot more than would normally be allowed without a manager having a "quiet word", as sitting for lengthy periods caused as many problems as standing/lifting for lengthy periods did -- so if errands needed to be run by someone in my team (that didn't involve heavy carrying) I delegated myself to do most of them. In this way my 'wanderings' didn't impact on the productivity of the team as much as they could have ;)

As it happened, I got my letter to attend a medical the week before I was already lined up to be going back to work on a phased return (I was on a "back rehabilitation" course for the last few weeks, and my GP insisted on signing me off work until the course was complete) -- and the appt was for during my second week back. I phoned and explained the situation, and they happily cancelled it.
