ok, sorry, this may sound like a really stupid question, but if your a student doing a sandwich course, which my other half will be doing next year, will he still be exempt from council tax, as technically, he would still be a student, or would it be that he has to pay it because he's earning? just wondering if theres anyone who's been there and done that who could answer my question?

you may also be entitled to grants such as the welsh assembly learning grant... even though your in full time work your still classed as a student doing a 120 credit moduleNamed after my cat, picture coming shortly0

My son did his workplacement for IBM last year, and I wondered the same thing but he did not have to pay it. He got the normal exemption certificate from Uni0

Daft question perhaps but going to ask anyway..
I am doing a part-time degree but working full-time I don't suppose I would be eligilble for a relief on council tax?
Many thanks0 -
got this from my old lancastrian university site. Best to check with your local council site.In order to claim exemption from Council Tax as a student, you must be studying a course that lasts for at least one academic year, and requires you to attend at least 24 weeks a year and 21 hours per week. All standard undergraduate and taught postgraduate courses should come into this category. If you are a postgraduate research student you are classed as a full-time student whilst you are registered, but you may encounter difficulties after your official period of registration has ended and you are "writing up". If you are in this situation then seek further advice - even if you cannot claim exemption as a full-time student, if you are unemployed or on a low income you may be entitled to claim Council Tax Benefit.0

Thanks greystar,
Only at college 6 hours a week, thanks for posting info tho appreciated.0 -
Yes. In order to qualify for the student exemption you should attend the minimum number of lectures etc. However, my university just gives out student certificates for the whole 4 years of my course, including the sandwich year. Councils generally exept these and do not question how many hours you're going to lectures. There would be no reason why they would. So (it doesnt count for me cos im living at home which my family on my placement year) my mates dont pay a penny in council tax.0
