I am posting this for a friend
She is thinking of buying a new kitchen with all utilities included, ie; oven, hob, dishwasher, frige, freezer, walls tiled etc,,,,,,,,,
I do not know the actual size or number of units required, but has just had a quote from kitchens direct for £7,000 all in.
Does anyone know if this is a good quote or of any cheaper places she may be able to get the same job done cheaper, she lives in the Halifax area.

She should get other quotes and compare them, making sure that they are for similar quality units and appliances.
Also, she should ask around about he quality of the workmanship of the various companies.
Whoever she decides to get, she should hold back a percentage of the cost until she is completely satisfied with the work, otherwise they may not come back to put anything right.0 -
Hello mrelephant
I've moved your thread to the 'Is This Fair' board, where it should get more views and responses.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. i was quoted £7500 for my kitchen & some appliances from b&q,
currys (yes, the larger stores do kitchens) quoted just under £5000 for same amount of units, and extra appliances. although the units and appliances were not necessarily the same make, they were of equal quality and standing. the cost of fitting was the major factor in the price difference.
ikea do lovely units at good prices if she knows anyone who can collect and fit for her.
btw, b&q quoted me £1100 to fit a £199 bathroom!"It is not uncommon for slight acquaintances to get married, but a couple really have to know each other to get divorced." - Anonymous0 -
mrelephant, please consider finding a local skilled craftsman and having your kitchen custom made. We recently had a quote from Norwood Interiors, £7500 for the kitchen units we want (in standard laminate frame, oak doors), and no granite worktop. This may be an abnormally high one, but a local shop will make (to measure) the same number of units for £2800 in solid oak throughout. I also have a quote of £1700 for the granite worktops, and the appliances are *always* possible to find cheaper by using price comparison sites, like Kelkoo.
The very friendly (and talented!) local tradesmen are also pricing up for me the cost of mixed wood construction, which would bring the price down further, yet only decrease the quality to the same as Norwood's.
To conclude, although there are some really cheap units out there, if it is a luxury kitchen you are after, do not dismiss the idea of custom made immediately, it is strangely competitive!0 -
have you got a howdens(not sure if thats how thats spelt) in your area they are owned by mfi but the same kitchen in mfi is a lot more including appliances i was told by a tradesman to go there in future they supply the trade and are much cheaper
hope this helps0
