Possible Halifax cashback loophole

Options
I am not sure whether it works.

I have a Egg account, which it enables to make email payment from one to the others.

I used my Egg to make an email payment to myself using my Halifax cashback account, (it uses my debit card details to draw the money out).

Then I pick up the email payment, it would transfer the money into my another account.

I had use my debit card to make payment to Egg before, it said "Brierley Hill, Debit card payment to Egg plc." It does not looks like a credit card payment, as it would be excluded from it cashback T&C.

The cashback account launched last Feb, it nears the time to get the cashback reward, if this works, I would use it all for my 10K allowance.

Any ideas? Thanks

Reading your post, it does not seem to contain a question anywhere, but if you are asking wether you will get cashback on your Egg Card payment then I don't think you will. I am sure that they have a list of merchants that are classed as bill payments and will not award cashback.

    Halifax moneyback Current Account
Moneyback is only available on debit card purchases. 'Debit card purchases' means goods and services bought using the card or card account number. The following debit card transactions do not qualify for moneyback - obtaining cash, foreign currency or traveller's cheques, the settlement of credit card bills, wire transfers of money orders, the purchase of stocks and shares.

  • I was thinking of that as well. I think "wire transfer of money orders" is like westernunion or moneygram.

Anyway, I have nothing to lose as the money is not into anyone else's pocket.

I got a letter from Halifax before xmas that tell me the up-to-date cashback amount, i will try few more times, to see whether it would increase it.

If works, keep you guys update.

I bought a car on my Halifax Cash Back card, so I'll be getting the £100 this year for sure.

Is there somewhere that you can see a total of your cashback earned?

I also bought a car using mine. It was nearly the £10k limit but I need to top it up and don't want to waste too much using this method.

Just a thought. What items might qualify for cashback with Egg Money that don't qualify with Halifax Moneyback?

(I know I can get CB on a TV licence as well as council tax - although the latter depends on you council's atitude to charging and there seems to be a lot of variation in this area.)

Donation to charities also attracts cash back even though strictly speaking not a 'purchase'.

In practice, I suspect all cards offering cashback treat most transactions the same as other cards do and the variation is minimal. It's just that only one bank account (Halifax) currently does cashback and there are many more examples of credit cards which do so.
