How do you celebrate New Year?!

  • I`m not a fan of New Year at all, Hubby and I will probs get a pizza and watch DVDs snuggled up at home. I used to go out when I was younger (I`m now 27) but I just can`t be bothered cramming into a pub and waiting ages to be served. I much prefer evenings out at the theatre etc but thats not really an option for new year!

Spent the last many Christmases babysitting as my daughter usually works (in a pub) but this year all the DGC are old enough to go with her and DSiL. Been invited to a party but I'm not a party animal so I'll likely just stay home and enjoy it on television. After all the Christmas celebrations (and cold, cough etc) it sounds good to me!

We are having a quiet one this year unless one of the neighbours has a last minute party.;)
Our girls are only 12 and 8 and so we'll be going down to the river which is about a 10 minute walk in the early evening to set off the last of our bonfire night fireworks.
Then we'll have a takeaway and have a go on the PS2 Singstar (Abba this year), watch a new DVD and end up watching Jules Holland until midnight, when we all go in the road to set off our party poppers. The girls then go to bed soon after midnight and we'll all have a lie-in on new years day. I love spending new years eve with my family.:D

This year's party is sorted, my cousin is getting engaged and she's having a combined engagement / birthday / partner's birthday / New Year's party, so quite the celebration!

Have done all sorts over the years, sometimes a pub, sometimes stayed in, sometimes in town, no particular pattern, whatever comes up or takes my fancy for something to do!

    Happy New Year, everyone!! :0)

dont mean to put a downer on, but at new years eve we all stay in and remember a family member who was murdered on new years eve 1990. she will never be forgotten, she was 19 years old with two beautiful babys. god bless xxx
  • in scotland:

major house cleaning the day before

some have a steak pie dinner after midnight

at the bells you are supposed to open your front and back door to let in the new year and let out the old year.

you should have a first foot after the bells - he should be tall, dark & handsome & should bring a lump of coal, shortbread or black bun etc

here in fife people take bottles of booze with them and offer those they visit after the bells a drink from their bottles.

  • I like to spend New Years Eve at home, quietly with my family. I like to get a good nights sleep, before having a nice meal with all my family on New Years Day. This coming year I'm hoping will be extra special because I'm finally committed to going on a wonderful city break to Edinburgh in August and a spa break in the spring with some relatives.
  • Last year we went to our daughter's for a small party. This year due to DH's work schedule we'll be at home. I'm planning on cooking one of his favourite meals, not sure which one yet. Then just a relaxing evening of playing games or cards and probably some telly. Quiet yet one of our favourite things to do. :)
