Felixstowe Docks in trouble?

Forgive me for what is possibly a rose tinted look at the last recession but I cannot remember it being as tight for the Port as it is this time.
Yes, hauliers, forwarders and shipping lines were going to the wall (I got made redundant from two of them during that time) but the port company itself seemed a lot better off.
Am I just falsely remembering? Things just seemed a little more positive for the Port even if the outside companies were struggling.
The Port has been hit due to the massive slowdown of exports from China and also due to the car industry in this country in meltdown.
On a Felixstowe blog we have just one back the AE1 service from MSK which will improve the volume by nearly 10% per week which is great news.0 -
It's a pity the one person who works at the Docks (ignoring his rather pathetic aliases) could not have given some proper anecdotal. The Port is obviously at the leading edge of a recession. If Curries ain't selling TV's then they ain't importing them. It's so bleedin' obvious.
But even now Pickles talks up the silver lining.
Sue. The reason it is worse this time around is that Just in Time manufacturing has been honed to a fine art form. There's no order backlog to work through, the de stocking is almost instant. No sale, no import, no export, no trade. Like throwing a switch.
The question is when will the switch be turned back on? And I do not want to hear some nonsense about silver linings from our eternal optimist. I'd rather hear the truth as more realistic people see it.0 -

Ok then what does this company import? What is it that we are going to keep on buying? How does this make up for the total loss of trade which must be staggering, according to anyone who isn't a grade A bullsh1t merchant.
You have told us consistently that house prices were solid, rentals were fine, the Port would never suffer, everything is OK. What do you get out of it? What is the point in telling lies to people you don't even know? Is it just such an ingrained habit that you have to keep doing it, even when it really doesn't matter?0 -

Mewbie, you won't get a sensible reply because he has none; you are probably too young to remember the "company" men who lived and died for their employer and in return got a job for life. Pickles is such a creature and therefore incapable of thinking outside the box and so you are wasting your time my friend. Trust me, I had to learn the hard way too!0 -
There's no point though, he's like one of those self righting things that once hit just stand right back up again. I think its called a Weeble?
Babe, don't talk filthy, you know what it does to me blood pressure:j0 -
