What is your opinion on gifts?

Whilst wrapping pressies my OH and I had a discussion about the giving of gifts. Whilst wrapping up my god daughters very large gift I said we should take it round to her next week and I made a comment about she'll know which one is ours as the box is huge. Hubby said we won't give it to her as her parents will want to put it away as all pressies "come from Santa"
So in his house when he was a child the pressies from his sisters, aunts grandparents etc were all delivered by Santa. I have never heard of this as in my house we were given the gifts directly by the person and if it was before christmas we put it under the tree and opened it on Chrsitmas day. The only gifts delivered by Santa in my house were the ones that were from him himself.
We have aggreed to disagree but it has got me wondering how other people do it. Please let me know (and if more people agree with me than I will show him this thread and if not I'll keep quiet :rotfl:)
Thanks

There was a thread about this last year and I was amazed how many do this! It seems very bizarre to me if I'm honest!
FC brings a stocking and one gift in this house. We give presents and relatives do to.
I feel is is darn rude to tell people they are not the 'true' giver of the gift they have bought tbh!! I certainly would not be amused!
Apart from anything else, I like my children to say thank you and learn about giving and receiving.0 -
agree with you both entirely, Santa brings our two their stocking, one gift and also some books. Everything else is from the people who bought them. It was the same when I was growing up too. It's BOUGHT not bRought0

As far as I'm conserned Santa can get the credit for DELIVERING the present (I'd be willing to go along with the 'I sent it to Santa to give to you') but no the present is off me.
If Santa 'gives' everything kids, quite rightly, are going to get the idea that they can have anything no matter how much money their family has because it's from 'Santa'0 -
We got our presents on Christmas morning delivered by Father Christmas but we knew they were from Mum & dad or Auntie Mary or whoever.
I always did the same for my children, now they are older we put all the gifts under the tree for people who will be here on Christmas Day. Nieces and nephews get theirs delivered before Christmas secretly if necessary so they can have them from FC on Christmas morning.0 -
Isn't it more magical if FC appears with presents he has selected though?
It all seems a bit odd that you post (do you 'post' them?) presents to the North Pole so her can put them on his sleigh and bring them back again?0 -
My brother-in-law sent presents for the boys today from New Zealand; they knew they were from him, as they read the customs labels on the outside, but when they opened the brown paper to put the presents under the tree, he'd signed them 'from Santa'!!!
Had to think very quickly on my feet to explain that one to DS1 (6 1/2!!!)That's Numberwang!0 -

No we put them under the tree and the elves come at night to take them to FC0 -
we do just one pressie and a stocking from santa - otherwise it would be WAY too complicated. I have a large family who I buy gifts for throughout the year (as otherwise time and moneywise it would just be too much even though we generally buy for children only lol) and we exchange gifts in person on or near to the day so it would be very obvious that these gifts weren't from the real santa.MSE PARENT CLUB MEMBER.ds1 nov 1997ds2 nov 2007:jFirst DDFirst DD born in june:beer:.0

FC gives some presents, we give others & friends & family give others. How else can LO's be expected to write thankyou's if they all come from FC?
We take turns opening presents & the tag has to be read out before the present can be opened (again how else can the person be thanked properly)
Also we deliver presents to people & get given infront of the girls, how is this explained?
DD is now 4 & this year she will get a stocking as FC knows 4 year olds can open a stocking in their own room!0 -
We give the children some presents from 'santa' and the rest we tell them who they are from so they can say thank you. I do wonder if they will question that santa uses the same wrapping paper as us!!May Wins: Annual Merlin Premium Pass, Annabel Karmel Bowl and Masher
