how much for a locksmith

  • Hi
I live in West Yorkshire, and I would agree with the last post from Jon, around this area it shouldn't cost more than £100 for a callout / lockout but that is assuming the lock is in good condition and doesn't require replacing due to internal faults. I have for example been to jobs where the parts inside the lock are so old or damaged that picking is not an option and unfortunately the drill has to be used.
However any decent locksmith should use any/all NDE(non-destructive entry) means before going anywhere near a drill but for me personally drilling is a last port of calI, It's a method of entry I find messy and annoying.
A good thing to do is if you have other types of doors or even windows allowing entry to the house ask the locksmith if they can get in there instead, the locksmith should ask but in case they don't ask them, it could save you time and money on a callout

But all things considered if your lock is causing problems you have to weigh up the costs, a standard new B.S. mortice lock is guaranteed for many years so if your existing one is dodgy anyway it may be cost effective to replace it. If you've just locked yourself out and the lock isn't obviously old / worn / faulty - you shouldn't have to pay for a new one.
Yale type cylinder locks and UPVC lock cylinders are a different story and should cost less, and are generally quicker to gain entry into.
