I have always found working out a budget to be a huge time waster not to mention a stressful experience when done with my OH:rolleyes:.... I work out what is coming in and what is going out and then what? I just try to spend as little as possible. Are budgets really necessary if you are not a spendthrift?

A budget is a plan......
How long ahead you plan is is up to you
day to day, month to month, year to year(minimum sensible one)
or
Life time
A budget/plan should include long term planning including retirement even if saving for it it is delayed it should be in the plan.
If you feel it is time consuming and a waste of time it is a good indicator you don't have good idea/plan of long term goals.0
