Cheap Weekend Break To Venice?

Trying to organise this for friend for a pressie IYKWIM:confused: There are 2 adults and basically anytime in late April/May would be fine. They wont be hiring a car, so need a hotel etc as easy as possible to get to from whatever airport is local.

Can anyone help? 2 adults for a weekend break in Venice late Apil/May? Cheaper the better.

Thanks

  • Look at the venice hotel thread on the chat board.

Lots of useful info & web sites listed.

    Where are you flying from?

Easyjet, fly to Marco Polo, which is the closest airport, bus transfer is 3 or 4 Euros and takes about 20 mins to get to Piazzale Roma & Ryan air fly to Treviso and run a bus to Piazzale Roma. It's then easy to get around Venice from Piazzale Roma using the Vaporetto. Look at Venere.com for lots of hotels & B & B's

  • It would be flying from any London Airport.

Ryanair have flights for the 30th April-3 nights for £96.58 Including all taxes etc for the 2 adults....is that good?

Have found a Hotel (Carletto)with continental breakie included for £ 107. 4 km from the airport but 30km to venice Island.

    Total cost £203.58

Is this a good location and is transport easy to use?

    Thanks

I helped my parents book a three nights there for April - we found Ryan Air the cheapest (£10 there, £25 back not including taxes), but using Treviso which is a fair distance from town, but well linked by buses.

They decided to go for British Airways as they could do it for £68.90 each return including taxes, and use Marco Polo Airport, as they like being able to check in and book the seats on the aircraft online, rather than compete in the bunfight for seats !

  • The Carnival runs over a number of days this year it is from 17-28 Feb. You can try this web site which details events on a day by day basis. http://www.carnivalofvenice.com/area.asp?id=4

Flight price is good, Easyjet is about £113, Gatwick to Marco Polo and about 3 or 4 euros transfer each to venice on the direct bus.

Treviso is further away, so it might work out about the same once you pay transfers.

If you delay leaving till Monday & come back on Thursday, Easyjet is about £2.40 dearer than your Ryanair price.

For about £240.00 you can stay in Venice at Locandi Saleri, https://www.hotelsalieri.com, basic, clean B& B type hotel near the top of the grand canal. Look on the https://www.venere.com site for loads of other and maps showing you where they are in Venice.

Have a good time & get a good guide book/street map before you go.

  • We stayed at the domina Giudecca. It was cheap 4* and was a 30 sec vaperetto ride to venice island.

Don't forget to look up any hotel in Tripadvisor (https://www.tripadvisor.com) as they are reviewed by people who have actually recently stayed in them (tho a lot of the reviews are written by Americans who find the lack of lifts to the first floor a serious disadvantage...).

I'd also recommend never paying extra for any breakfast in an Italian hotel - be like the Italians, pop into the nearest bar for an expresso or cappucino for a couple of euros!

It's probably worth paying a bit extra to actually be in Venice, so you can walk everywhere and not have to worry about catching the last vaporetto home

    have fun - I'm jealous!

Treviso airport (the one that Ryanair flies to!) is a long way out of Venice - a good hour on the bus service that they run. So remember that when you're booking flight times. I think it's worth being a bit more to fly into Marco Polo with someone like Easyjet - the transfers will eat up any savings on the flight.
