mattress problem (merged)

Options
paid 1,000 for a new mattress in april from marks and spencer. Also bought an armani pink fitted sheet, have taken the sheet off to wash and the mattress is stained pink. Now, this sheet was not cheap and therefore should not have stained the mattress. The mattress has been inspected and they are saying that they will clean the mattress but I would not be able to use it for a few days since it would be wet. I have refused because they would not offer a replacementuntil mine dried. They are now saying that they will source a company that can clean it without making the mattress wet. What do you think, I`m not sure where I stand or what I can demand. any advice greatly apreciated. thanks

Personally I would say that the fault lay at the door of the pink sheet manufacturer, espec ially if there is no warning of possible colour tranferance on the packaging. I would write a strongly worded letter to them and ask them for compensation. Send them some photos if it helps, but I find that complaining by letter works miles better than by telephone or email. See what they offer, but if the mattress cleaning is free i would accept that also.
  • do you think I should ask for compensation on top of the mattress cleaning. They have been out and inspected and clearly seen the damage.
  • sorry, should have said. I bought the sheet from frasers and it is the department that sells armani who has inspected the damage. I think they liase with the manufacturer

Why would you want compensation  You've got a stained matress that they have said they'll do something about.

It's not as if you've lost an eye or an arm

Give them the opportunity to rectify the problem. If they won't give you a replacement for the 3 days you'll be without it, then they'll have to find some other way of cleaning it. Failing that, they'll have to replace it.

£1000 for a matress  jees...is that how much they cost these days  I've still got the first one I bought after getting married 12yrs ago :j  paid £300 for the whole bed  and its still in perfect condition.

I've just paid under £400 for a brand new 'memory foam' mattress so I was thinking exactly the same!!

  • 6months ago I bought a very expensive mattress (1,000) along with armani pink fitted sheet. The pink colouring has stained the mattress. The company called, Descomps Ltd are based in sloan street in London. They have offered a mattress protector which is over 100.00 and a new fitted armani sheet which is 65.00. I have refused the offer, basically I don`t fancy sleeping with a mattress protector underneath me. They are now trying to locate a company that can perform a dry clean to the mattress, and it means that the mattress wont be wet at all. The more I think about all this, people in and out of the house, my lovely light beige carpet getting trampled on. Do you think I can ask for financial compensation. Not sure if they will go down the road of a money offer since they are reccommending a dry clean.

If you had a protector on in the first place the £1000 mattress wouldn't have got damaged. Its not a plastic one they're offering is it ? I dont have a problem with my mattress protector...it does it's job. It's not plastic either. What's wrong with a protector ?

Ask them to take their shoes off when they come in  They come in once, do the job...then they leave.
If in doubt, cover the carpet over with a sheet or something.

  • Yeah, that's what married life does to you :-D

I'm not sure I get all this...so the matress is a bit Pink, I'd understand it being a problem if the springs had gone, but who's going to see a matress?
OK £1000 for a matress I can see the upset there, I'd just let them clean it and sleep on the couch for a few nights...actually it wouldn't bother me I'd just leave it pink.

I have an anti-allergy matress protector, which actually makes the bed slightly more comfortable, so get their kind cleaning offer then get a matress protector and don't spend £100 on one - they're about a tenner from Argos.
