I got a phone call from someon claiming to be 'Lloyds TSB' but they wouldn't tell us what it was about and wanted details from us first. They rang us under the pretence we rang them about something, this was not true and this number showed on our caller display for weeks, so they were pestering us. When we did catch them, they were cagy and strange. We rang our branch and they had no knowledge of it

A cautionary warning - is this the telephone equivalent of the email phishing?

But, on the other hand, as an MSE'er you might walk out with a free current account paying more interest... or a 0% credit card you can use to your advantage. Maybe if you have an existing overdraft you can negotiate the interest rate down so its more competitive, ask them for a better deal on any insurance you have with Lloyds which will no double be over priced currently too.
This is what happened to me. After 3 different calls over a year from the branch manager, when I started using the account in earnest, I gave in, and strangely I walked away with #10,000 at 0% for 9 months, and could (if I wanted to) have obtained an overdraft for another #10,000. I only took them up on #500 overdraft and bit his hand off when he offered the CC. I'd walked in with details of other financial products, and strangely he didn't even have the decency to try an offer me TSB's sub-standard versions of the same products (ISA, hi-interest savings, etc...)

That was the only bad part of it really - being unable to say no, because he could see that I would say exactly that :)
