the bottom 3 strings are buzzing as if they are too loose. i have adjusted the bridge (which was fine before i restrung it??) and it is in tune and its not buzzing off the frets either, i cant think what else it is, all i know is that it was fine with the old strings...

Have you changed the guage (weight) of the string set - lighter guage strings can buzz as they don't have the same fit at the nut.

    Some pointers here http://www.guitarnotes.com/notes/buzz.shtml

That happened to me, turned out the neck was ever so slightly twisted (I couldn't tell by looking, the 'twist' was so slight) - I got a friend with all the proper equipment to sort it out. Dunno what he did but it's fine now.

i have changed gauge yes, to 10s instead of nines is this the prob? only the thickest 3 strings are buzzing. i dont think the necks twisted as it was fine before i put new strings on. also can someone help me out with plectrum gauges, on ebay they are selling them as .48 mm etc but ive always used ones that say medium on lol...whats medium in .of a mm? cheers.

I'd have thought 10s would sit higher in the nut than 9s - do you have a 'zero' fret? If the string is slightly higher over this is could rattle a bit. My pleccies are only marked in MMs - to me, 1mm is heavy and 0.71 medium (Jim Dunlops) although it depends what they're made of - the harder/shiny plastics feel a bit 'heavier'.

it buzzes on the open string and at the 11 12 and 13th frets on the bottom e, other two very slightly on 13 and 14, the frets are fine..call me thick but dunno what a zero fret is? doh

By changing the gauge you've messed up the intonation. Go down to a local guitar shop and ask them to show you how to do it for you. it should cost about £2.

A zero fret is a standard fret just in front of the nut - you can't actually play it, the string run through the nut then rest on it. It's used mainly on cambered fingerboards as it's a lot easier (and more consistent) than cutting the nut slots to different depths (the middle strings have to be higher than the outside ones).

Do you have height adjustment at the bridge? Can't understand the open string buzz (should be sitting higher in the nut and the bridge if the 9s weren't buzzing), did you have a very low action with the 9s?

Need to go out now (who's kidding - want to go out now...) will be back much later.
