Parking Restrictions

Not sure if this is on the right board so please feel free to move it.
We have lived in our terrace for just over a year now and have been parking in a marked out parking on the other side of the road (just lines drawn on the road not a proper bay). It has always been 1 hour parking, but we have never had a ticket so didn't bother about it, then this week with no warning we (and most of the other people living on the street) got clobbered with a £30 fine  .
My question is: is there anything we can do to get the parking restrictions lifted?
We don't live near a town centre, any shops, businesses etc. I fact there is no reason for anyone to park there if they don't live on my street
.
any help would be appreciated

Yeh why not organise a petition with your neighbours.0

Speak to your council to find out why 1 hour parking was introduced. Also check whether the signs are legally enforce. This might be why no tickets have previously been issued but you may have a new traffic warden who didn't realise.
