An average kitchen installed well far surpasses the best cabinets installed badly. If the cabinets are fitted properly then it doesn't really matter if they came flat packed or rigid. Therefore it's much more important to get the best installer.
What does matter is the quality of the doors. Whether or not they are real wood or vinyl wrap, etc. Everything else is more or less equal.
I would have suggested B&Q, but they're currently trying on the make with their prices. As an example here are a couple of example pages from the Autumn and Summer catalogues. All the door and cabinet prices have doubled in the latest issue.0 -
The way you get a well priced kitchen with appliances is to buy your appliances seperately. You'll never get the best deal buying everything from the same shop.
I don't rate Howdens as being cheap at all, I still think B&Q provide value for money, despite their current sales tactics (standard for most kitchen co's I say, including Howdens as the discount is from a purely fictional RRP)
I've never bought an Ikea kitchen but I won't argue with the fact that their prices are definately competitive (the price of the appliances aren't that bad either and it's always worth checking out bargain corner for ex-display integrated appliances)
I'm frustrated though that they don't do larger cabinet sizes - it's also true that your kitchen will be cheaper if you buy larger size units as you buy less of them, therefore comparitively cheaper and avoiding drawers because they are very expensive but drawers are absolutely fabulous for storage; so on the flipside, you'll get a very attractive kitchen if you have lots and lots of drawers and you will get a lot more in them than you can in a cupboard. Larder units are also great value for money in terms of what you can get in them - I like being able to look at my things at eye level - you're either crouching down or standing on tip toes with traditional base and wall units. \
So, it's not just the company you use, you can affect the price by thinking carefully about the items you are buying and also considering the number of lengths of worktop you need - especially if you are buying wood tops which are expensive, so you want best economy.
Never buy fitting with your kitchen - you will find it cheaper if you employ your own fitter.
(kitchen bore extraordinaire, me!)Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

That was what I was going to say. Apparently they done all the MFI stuff at a fraction of the price so if theres an MFI near you still open, have a look, take notes and get someone in the trade (whoever your going to use to fit it?) to go in.
They might even give you brochures if you go in and ask0 -

but they keep ur money and u get kitchen that is either damaged, bits missing, appliances broken etc and when u complain no replies. give u a premium number to be put on hold and basicaly u will lose your money with no comaback cause you paid cash/cheque/bankers draft, their terms and conditions are not legal. oldham trading standards are well aware of them. we luckily only lost £200 deposit because we googled them, and found out what they were kike, but people all over the country have lost thousands and will never get it back. dont even consider using them unless you got loads of money to get rid off and receive absolute junk. vance miller was involved in this company and lots of others under same umbrella and got fined £90,ooo with suspeded sentence.
good luck for those of you have been warned before u lose money - dont let them into your house.
hope this helps.0
