  • Is it a proprietory nutrient especially for seedlings, or do you simply weaken a 'full strength' nutrient?

I certainly wouldnt buy the commercial stuff, for seedlings i use 20% strength organic seaweed or miracle grow as the nutrient. So far that seems to be working ok for me.
  • I find the jiffy peat pellets work fine in a flood and drain sytsem as the roots tend to hold it all togethor nicely. Usually if any bits come loose the pumps aren't affected.
If using NFT or drip feed they can cause issues then:rolleyes:

Never got on with rockwool myself for starting seeds or cuttings off.

have you heard of root riot cubes? these things are brilliant to use as they come moist and ready to go.
Any hydroponic shop or site sells them;)

If going down the route of a full set up indoors with lighting, check out the 200w energy saving lights that hydroponic shops/sites sell.
these are great for growing your seedlings under and growing toms and chillies through early stages until ready to go under the hps for fruiting.
Good points are reduced heat output and less electricty used;)

I'm a fan of growing hydroponically and have been for a few years now, its alot easier than humping loads of bags of compost around plus you can go on holiday for 2 weeks and I know unless i get a power failure my plants will be fine:T
