Advice on unit rates?
Options
Hi,
I'm thinking about moving my gas and electricity to Atlantic and Electric which would provide a yearly saving of £100.
I've just compared the unit rates in more detail and they appear to be cheaper with my current provider British Gas? How can Atlantic and Electric claim to save me money if their unit rate is higher?
Both providers are based on a pay for what you use basis. i.e,. no monthly charge.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks...

As far as I know neither of these providers has a tarif without standing charges. They do have tarif's that have no upfront standing charge but they get it back through having a higher tier.
Work out your usage the work out the bills including all discounts, standing charges, higher tiers and VAT.

While the unit rates may be higher there are often all sorts of discounts available. If you manage your account online you may get discount, if you pay by direct debit you may get discount and if you take dual fuel you may also get discount.
I notice today that on https://www.energyshop.co.uk ScottishPower have launched a new product 'online energy saver' which has upped the annual online discount from £15 to £45.
