Just to echo what others have said (I'm also a licence holder) that yes, it's illegal.
Most people just seem to think it's harmless enough, but if can get the licensee in a lot of trouble.0 -
Have some at home before you go out, then whilst out alternate between an alcoholic drink and a soft drink - better for you too!0

I used to do this all the time when I was younger but was one of those of the opinion that I would never have done it down my local but big nightclubs and hotels were fair game.
Before I am judged, let me have my say. Most people who do this, do not do it because they are tight, but because they cannot afford to fork out for club/hotel prices. At a wedding I was at they were charging almost £4 for a spirit!! Hotels cannot justify this after they have charged £35 per head for a meal. A guy in the hotel told me that their prices are so high because people do that but I would argue that if they kept the prices reasonable, people wouldn't have to.
Also, it's not the same to sit in and drink your drink. If you can't afford to have a big night out, you don't want to be left drinking in your living room. For many people that are getting it tight, it is a way to have a cheap night out.
I haven't done it for a few years now but I can understand why people do it. The greed of some places forces people into, whether it is legal or not.
BTW-I only got caught once and after a bit of flirting I got the bottle back on the way out so I didn't bother me that much!0 -
Always run the risk of a good hiding by some dodgy bouncers.0

Why do people think that pub landlords are trying to rip you off? At the end of the day you're not just paying for your drink, you're paying for someone to make that drink, a warm & mostly safe, social environment with toilets etc etc You think about how many members of staff work in your local pub - they have to be paid. If you fancy a night out on the cheap, why don't you take your hip flask of whisky and gather with your mates at the bus stop or in the park!0

You wouldn't take a flask of Nescafe into Starbucks, or a ham sandwich into McDonalds. Same applies here.
"I can't afford it" is all well and good, but if you can't afford to go to the club then don't go to the bloody club! Stay at home and drink your cheap booze.0 -
Exactly what law would be broken by taking a drink container into licensed premises? 'Duty of Care' still applies even if the person wasn't a paying customer."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

I appreciate your point of view but people should also consider the licensee who could get fined or even lose their licence (and hence their job) for this.0
