Be aware that I have it on good authority that many of Somerfield's turkeys are Halal. Despite this not being stated on the packaging, it is clearly marked on the larger boxes deliveries come in. Something to bear in mind.0

In case anyone gets confused and rushes out to Somerfield, all but the last post in this thread are from 2008. AFAIK there is no Somerfield Turkey deal this year.

Somerfield FRESH Turkeys - Just £3 a kilo
Ones I saw in my local store yesterday - about 5kgs ish - about £16 ish
Green & white bag - flashed with a red star/disc with £3 a kg in it - O'Kane's is the brand
And if anyone is concerned about where they come from, it's from Northern Ireland

Nipped into my nearest about 1pm today to see if any turkey bargains around, sadly none left of any description, but a SA I'm friendly with told me to try the next nearest store (was a "genuine" Somerfield until about a month ago - the merger/takeover has started here - now it's branded as a Co-op)
She seemed to think at this store about 400 turkeys had been delivered yesterday, and they had been 75% off since the doors opened his morning.
Still some left when I got there - down to £1.12 a kg (was £4.50 - didn't stock the O'Kanes £3/kg)
Got one that's for 10 to 14 people for just over £7.

Well had the turkey crown from Somerfields (£3/kg) today and it was absolutely delicious. Lovely and moist and very tender. Loads left for tomorrow. Really impressed with the taste.If I had known then what I know now . . .
