Is there somewhere I can go for genuine proper and accurate tax credit advice?

My husbands hours were reduced a few months ago, from a 5 day week to approximately 3 or 4 days per week, which made around 25 hours. Called Mr TC, to have £130 taken off us a month. Nice.

He then got himself another job, on top of his normal job, and I called back the other day to tell them his hours and pay were roughly back to normal, if not less, and our TC have now been increased to a whopping £3 extra per week. Where is our £130 a month that we had before????

I need to sit down with someone who knows all about it cos it really frustrates me. They also couldn't disclose to me, over the phone, the salary I told them the other day???

tax credits are before my time...... are tax credits real money? or extra allowance against tax paid? I cant believe that the government give you extra money even though you are working and paid full time. We just lived to our earnings although we did get family allowance for our first child. No wonder there's not enough in the pot to pay a decent old age pension............regards bri

The only scenario I can think of is that your income last year was a lot lower than it is now, but your income when you called to advice of reductions was lower than last year

In April they'll have calculated your award based on last tax year

When you phoned with the reductions they'll have changed to using this years income (as it's based on the lower of the two at this point - and would also have been adjusted to remove the 30 hour element assuming you don't work)

You've now phoned with an increase on this years..... so they're still using this years new figures. If these are substantially higher than last years I'm not sure if they can revert to using last years, as I've never hit this one myself
