Windows freezes - any option other than to reboot?

For heaven's sake!
Here I am - totally new pc system with latest Vista OS - and I STILL get the occasional 'freezing situation' where I link to a new page and windows/IE only gets 'halfway there'.
Nothing I try, other than a complete restart, will budge the thing. I can't minimise or cancel the new, half-formed and totally nothing-happening page, i.e. it brings surfing to a complete halt.
Do others suffer from this and is there a different solution other than a minutes-long reboot?

Sounds like it ~could~ be a graphics card driver problem. Have you checked to see if yours is the latest?
If you have other windows open at the time, does Alt-Tab let you switch to them? My guess is not...
I don't have an answer, but another question, as I don't know Vista:
Does anyone know if Vista has the equivalent of the Linux Alt-Ctrl-Backspace, which just restarts the graphical display process without rebooting the whole system? If so, that would at least make recovery a bit quicker, and reduce the chance of data corruption.0 -
mines done it over the last week or two I think one of the updates are playin up on my machine. I just log off then on again its quicker.Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives.:j0

CTRL-ALT-ESC brings up Task Manager. Go to Processes, find iexplore and click on end process.
If it's only got 512MB in the computer, it needs more RAM. If it's running Norton, Symantec, McAfee or AVG8, that's the source of your problems.0 -
Vista would like at least 2 gig RAM to do what XP would in 1 but not more than 30
