American laptop

:D Please be gentle- is my first post in here. I am sure there is an easy way to solve this- but despite extensive searching i can find it- so am relying on some clever person to help me out.

We brought a laptop back from America last year which has windows vista and office on it. However when ever i try to type a document in word- each time i use the space key it inserts a full stop. Is there any way of stopping this as its driving me mad! My other computer is not working at the moment so am relying on my laptop and am struggling to get work done.

Thanks in anticipation,;)

This sounds very unusual since the US keyboard doesn't do a period=full-stop when you press the space bar. Neither does any other keyboard known to man! Pressing the space bar is supposed to produce... yes, you've guessed it! a Space!

Certainly changing to the UK keyboard layout will assist - but then you have the problem that the physical layout of the US keyboard (slightly different key positions) and the symbols printed on them will not match.

It's really not a good idea to buy PCs or laptops from America, for this very reason, even if they are much cheaper than here...

You might find a solution is to buy a cheap UK-style keyboard (with a USB plug at the end, not the old circular PS/2 type) from somewhere locally - even Tesco, perish the thought!
