Without doubt get it.
We took our mutt to the vet for her jabs when she was a baby, and we got 6 weeks foc, until we had made our mind up,and eventually went for M&S,at about £10pm.
I dread to think what a cost would be if we weren't covered. That's my mutt in the picture above.0 -
I get insurance as soon as I got my puggy (he is going to be 6 soon), if I hadn't then he wouldn't be alive now.
One minute they are or and the next they can be very ill, then it's too late. My vet insurance came to over £7500 in 1 year !!!!!!!!! Thank goodness for insurance.0 -
Im with everyone else. Get the insurance ASAP. If the vet notices a problem when you go it will be too late - you have to be able to say you are not aware of any conditions. There is normally at least 2 weeks before the insurance kicks in.0

I have never bought pet insurance and never will. Im against most type of insurances anyway because of the stupid prices they charge.
Also...its only been in the last couple of decades that Pet insurance became popular.....noone ever bothered before and Vets didnt take advantage either.
My home will be available to any animal that needed a home, regardless of whether or not I can afford insurance.
I put money away every month for Emergency Vet bills.....and you never know...perhaps I wont ever need to use it and one day there may be enough for my holiday.0 -
Thats ok Tinks unless you get a huge bill - and £5k isnt unheard of for say a broken leg or hip problems. Also on going allergy conditions are very prevailant now, eg. exzema and if you are paying out £80 a month or something for meds it could potentially mean for some people having to put their pet to sleep. It does make sense to cover yourself for any big pay outs.
One of mine had skin allergies and dry eyes. In that year the tests alone came to over £500, let alone the cost of meds for him at £60 a tube for eye ointment. Thank god his condition has improved greatly now by using special food and salmon oil supplements but Id dread to think of the cost of the meds had the condition continued (let alone poor dogs distress).0 -

I think they bump it all up when they know you have insurance.
I took Ted to the vets after a fight (eye infection), vet said "do you have insurance" I said "no, is it that bad?" she said "if you had insurance I would have sent you to an eye specialist for tests".
Because I didn't have insurance I got the ointment, drops & pain killing jabs for £150. In a weeks time it was all good again.0 -
Possibly Mrs E, but then again, if your dog had had a more serious condition may be the eye specialist would have been a god send.0

You know, I still think of dogs as men and cats as ladies - lol! Have done that since I was a kiddie.
But seriously, one of the girls on another forum I frequent had a prob with her dogs eye - it was something that was congential with the breed - and the specialist who saw him said that he couldhave been blind within a week had he not been treated. So I guess its up to personal choice re insurance. I like the security of being able to say "go ahead" to anything that may be needed.0
