I have an Advent 7113 and it has decided to just not read any kind of media anymore.
I tried to put pics from my camera on lappy using a memory card reader and the reader was working (lit up) but the pictures were not coming off, I went to Boots and got the pics put on CDs and when I put them in it wont read that either. I also tried burning some music and nothing happened.
Anyone know what it could be?

It sounds like two separate (though maybe related) problems.
If you plug something other than your card reader - e.g. a pendrive - into the same USB port, is it recognised?
If you look for your CD-ROM drive in Device Manager, does it show up as having an error?0 -
It can read flash drives I have just found out... I wonder why it cannot read the memory card reader, surely its the same kind of thing?
I cant find the CD-ROM drive in device manager at all.0 -
There does appear to be a spate of USB problems at the moment with those symptoms. One thing that has worked for me in the past is to go into Device Manager and uninstall all of the USB port and hub devices, then reboot, and they should all be re-installed automatically.
I'd thought that the CD-ROM problem might be the now well-known MS "upper and lower filters" problem, but that doesn't seem to match what you see. In Device Manager, do any other devices - particularly system devices - show any yellow exclamation marks?0 -
