i have an elderly relative who lives alone and is currently paying £16 a month for home phone line rental. over the last 3 months he has only used £2 worth of calls, however charged £48 line rental.
are there any options where he only pays for the calls. mobiles are out of the question as he would not be able to use one do to illness. i am trying to help him cut out this unessecary cost. so can any money savers out there help/ advise.
cheers keithboy

I assume they are with BT you dont say.
BT basic line rental is £11 a month from the 1/1/2006 what other services are they paying for that brings the total up to £16, eg caller display or a call package?
It is possible they would be better off on the BT light user scheme. have a read of this PDF. http://www.bt.com/customerservices/downloads/light_user_scheme.pdfPF.0

My MIL wanted to stay with BT and we thought this was easiest. The BT Light user scheme worked well.
A quick call to set it up and then as far she was concerened everything was just the same. No prefix numbers or anything.Love living in a village in the country side0
