The draw back going abroad as a single Mum with children is you have to pay adult price for your 1st child. All hotel holidays are priced two adults + children.

When my two were small all we could afford was a week at Butlins every few years. They used to do a thing that for the first two weeks in July the first child went free if you were a single parent. So I only had to pay for myself and the youngest. To be honest, I spent the week 'escorting' them from activity to activity, but as somebody said earlier, once they were in bed (sometimes quite early as they were shattered), I put my feet up and opened a bottle of wine! I was happy that they were enjoying themselves, as they had been through a rough time.

They are 19 and 16 now, and we are venturing abroad this year for the first (and probably last) time. It has taken me years to save up, and now I have to pay for 3 adults but I am really looking foward to it. I am sure they will be away clubbing most of the time but I will find something to do I am sure! I know the 'billy' feeling well, but after all these years I am well used to it and have become very independent (and like it that way too!!!)

Good luck and have a great holiday, wherever you go!

Split with my ex wife when daughter was 6 and son 2. We had 4 weeks abroad every year just me and them untill my daughter left home to live with her boyfriend. son is now 18 and last came to Spain with me last year but now is courting so it looks as though the old mans on his own !

Go for it ! All countries in Western Europe are fine for single parents with a family and you will find the locals bend over backwards to help and please you as they are much more family orientated than us brits !
