switching

I'm sure this is a daft question but I'm new to all of this, & never switched energy company. I have seen the sites where you can compare suppliers but also needs to be done?

Just worried that I'm going to carry on with the form & end up making a mistake & end up with no gas or electric.

Whatever happens you are unlikely to end up with no gas or electric, if they arent supplying it then they cant charge you for it (and thats what they all want to do)

Try and find out your Kwh usage and put that in to compare prices and the comparison should be as accurate as possible.

What I do is visit Moneysupermarket.com and Energyhelpline.com for a comparison, ideally entering actual usage in KWH, if not certain of actual usage then I would enter my yearly bill totals.

I then clear cookies and go to a 100% Cashback site, e.g Quidco, Top Cashback, Cashback Kings and see who is offering the Highest Cashback, I make application to switch via the 100% Cashback Site and from then on after numerous switches ive never had any problems at all.

Oreo, bristolleedsfan's method is as good as any. Double check that you're not tied in (unless it's such a good deal you don't mind) with a penalty for leaving. If you don't have accurate annual usage figures, double check the tariffs against your current one. Worst that can happen is that you make a bad choice and have to switch again.

Once you've done it, you get confirmation and will be eventually be asked for meter readings. It can take several weeks to get to this point, then it's all transferred behind the scenes and you get a final bill. If there's a credit on your account, you should get it back into your bank account. Once that's done, you can cancel the DD if you have one.

I used a site called Who's Cheapest and saved just over £200 p.a in about 5 minutes... I'd highly recommend... they compare every gas and electric supplier availale to you and then give you the option to switch... I also had no problems at all... I'll put the link below...

    Compare Gas and Electric

    Hope this helps :)

Yeah, but as Bristolleedsfan hinted at earlier, why let these comparison sites make money out of switching your supplier when you can get that money for yourself? BLF and myself (and, I'm sure, others on here and elsewhere) trouser anything up to £300 per year by switching via the cashback sites he mentioned. It's the same action and consequence whichever way you do it (you click a link and give them your meter reading when requested) but the difference is the cash in our sky rockets.

HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??

I wonder what is the name of your site that you promoted with that optimisation company you mentioned elsewhere? Could it possibly be that comparison site?

    Spammer reported. Hope this helps.

Can you just switch supplier as often as you want (assuming you didn't accept a price fix tariff)? I have been with Scottish Power a year, having switched from Atlantic and to them from NPower. Scottish Power are consistently the cheapest, but I wouldn't object to switching before and after the summer to get some cashback ....

    :p

Yes, you can. Even if there's a penalty for canclling, it's worth doing if it's less than the cashback.

Right then: I am going to switch supplier as soon as the cold bit of winter is over, and then switch back to SP at the end of the summer!
