Buying a new car

I do think there should be a special section on the newsgroup for this. I tried to buy a second hand car today from a garage in Middlesbrough (CD Bramall Vauxhall Middlesbrough, Cargo Fleet Lane). The salesman offered me a deal on the price, until we got into the office when he said he couldnt do anything better than the screen price! That was after offering me an insulting price for trade in and trying to tell me it is "the law" to offer a £300 "diamond" coating treatment. Are there no controls over car salesmen? In my opinion they deserve their crappy reputation!
