hey guys
after formatting HD I cannot run in safe or normal mode its asking for mouse.drv I assume this means the microsoft mouse drivers, windows boots up to the 98 logo then up pops " errorloading mouse.drv please reinstall " on a black screen before quickly to the " its now safe to turn your computer off " screen
ive rebooted 98 again twice from disk to no avail still has the same problem
any suggestions ?
thanks

Try booting into safe mode (F8 at boot), and do a scandisk.
If that doesn't work, then boot into safe mode with command prompt, search for your mouse.drv file. If it exists, it may be corrupt.
c:
cd \
dir mouse.drv /s
(It should be in c:\windows\system)
If it is corrupt, you can use expand to decompress it from your windows98 CD (if you have one) or from you cabinet files which may be on the hard disk
dir win*.cab /s

or you could download it from here:

Failing that, you could have a corrupt registry, or system/win.ini file. Sometimes this can be fixed by doing a scanreg /restore from the command prompt.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
