Im currently chatting to a friend of mine on MSN who is some 100plus miles away from me. He sent me a link to an ebay item which I looked up then closed down. Some 30 mins later I told him to look up a specific item (just told him the words to put in, didnt send him a link) He looked it up and as well as showing the items its now saying at the top of the page on HIS PC 'Welcome (my ID)' he can access My Ebay and all of my account?
Has anyone encountered this before & how on earth have we managed this?

Just before Christmas ebay.com (the US ebay) was receiving complaints all over the official boards about just this problem.
I don't know what was resolved as the discussions were still ongoing when I went away at Christmas.
It might be worth talking to ebay live and see what they say.

eBay security is virtually non-existent. If you've done that accidently imagine what hackers/fraudsters are doing on purpose! Can I help?0

I tried ebay live who told me I must have left my details saved in my friends computer. Or he must know my password. Ive never used his computer in my life & I objected to them questioning my friends honesty. Ill go and check the US boards though

It seems too much of a coincidence that your friend has accidentally accessed your Ebay account, all the millions of accounts that could come up and it happened to be yours?
Someone has signed in on his computer at some stage with your details and if it wasn't you? It must be him??0 -
if the above was the case and his firend was accessing his account (and i dont for 1 minute suggest this) why would his friend now tell him he has his details, why would he not just say nothing? op is fully aware of his friends integrity and who are we to question that?0

I'm not questioning anyones integrity but it seems strange that out of millions of Ebay users the account that his computer 'logged itself into' was his friends.0 -

I hadn't thought of that. The US problem was much more random and had different people seeing different log in information at totally random times.
The only other thing i can think of, and it might not work, is if the OP sent a link to an ebay page or something in which he was logged in and limited information was available due to the link being live. Is that at all possible?
There are 60 million users on ebay, it does seem odd that someone you actually know can see your information without the log in being passed across somehow.

It looks as though the OP was able to send a "deep link" which had the "I'm already signed on" code embedded in it.
If you ever need to send an auction link to another person, use the "Email to a friend" feature; never cut and paste a link from your browser. Can I help?0 -

Thank you, I thought there must be a possibility that a live link could be sent somehow. It also occured to me last night after I had logged off that some months back someone had to change a link in one of their posts on here as it was 'live' and some people could still see the user name logged in.

i got caught last week, with someone listing 30 items..... i hadnt been caught by a spoof email, as all emails from ebay that i receive i forward to spoof to check, even if they look good.
I dont use anyone elses pc's
but i had a fraught 3 days.......
some comments
uk and us support dont check what each other are doing, ie keep ana eye on accounts that have raised issues.
only due to the fact that i asked my brother to log into my account to change the password, (because i cant access ebay from work).
i then manage to get in via my managers internet access.
cancelled all of the auctions, email ebay loadsa times, changed password again.
uk ebay support did refund all auctions fees, cancel all auctions on day 1,
day 2 - us ebay support locked my account as they beleived i had been having problems. told me to use 'live ebay', which only works between 10pm and 4am UK time on weekdays.
uk ebay sent an email saying ' we beleive you are having problmes' nnnnnnnn
all ok now.
account unlocked
day 3 - emails from both uk and us ebay support - stating that my account had been hijacked, account locked, account ok, account activity refunded...............
all ok now
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....
