Rejection - Appeal

in Credit cards
I applied for a CC and was rejected. In the rejection letter it states I'm welcome to appeal directly to the company against the decision basically by providing further details or updates regarding my credit report. Is this worth doing? I'm going to give it a shot regardless as I have very good grounds for it.
My major query is, how do I go about this, how can I appeal against something that may look unfavourable on my credit report without actually showing it on my credit report. I know you're entitled to leave noted on your credit report providing certain information/proof. But the letter sets it out that I can appeal directly to them with any further information, e.g. something thta isn't shown on the credit report.
Just wondering if anyone has any advice on going down this route.

I've appealed before and over turned a few rejections.
Mine were always based on proof of the savings that I had to offset any debt - the savings don't show on your credit file.
Good luck.Karma is a wonderful thing.0 -
Probably in these enlightened times of lending the lender is taking a more robust route to lending. I have just had my Halifax cc limit reduced from £12.750 to £3.000 not that i am bothered has i would never use that limit anyway and recently transferred a balance in the last month to Tesco's card, for i think it's 14 month interest free period without a problem. What a lot of people do not realise is that credit is a privilege, not a right. Do you have any missed payments on your mortgage, a loan or any thing similar? If you have then the company you applied to do have a fundamental right to protect their interests. I know i would. I do not wish to sound sanctimonious but they have to protect their interests, same has i would. I must confess i did work for GE capital ten years ago and my, did that open my eyes.0

Interesting, so did you literally send them copies of proof of savings versus any debts? Did you show anything else if you don't mind me asking, I can understand if the details are too personal. Thank you.0 -

I can understand where you're coming from. However I'd like to think my situation would, if it were the be all and end all, guarantee me a second chance. I have no missed mortgage payments, loans but I do have something
I have an exceeded overdraft. When I say exceeded I mean by roughly £15, this was exceeded by
1) unfair bank charges. I literally paid off my interest free overdraft and was double charged the next month to take me back over it.
2) Theft. Fraudulent transactions on my current account which were never reimbursed despite being told so.
3) Theft, again. A credit card taken out in my name, unknowningly to me. This was done by someone simply intercepting my junk mail and quite literally signing a box to say "Yeh, I'd like this credit card[/i]. This of course caused more fraudulent transactions on a credit card in my name that I didn't even know existed. This later caused me, in panic, to pay it off with my current account. Again, never compensated.
There's even more but it's a bit too personal and it's an on going thing.
Bottom line is, all the debts, which amount to 2 on my credit report, have nothing to do with me, and I cna proove this beyong reasonable doubt.
Furthermore, in light of what was said above, I have savings equivalent to about 20x my so-called debt.
So... I think i'll appeal. Thanks again! I never knew cc's allowed this kind of appeal. Which is hopefully, great news to me. Any other tips appreciated.
EDIT: Whilst writing a covering letter in my appeal I was considering writing "This would actually be my first credit card application" in reference to what I mentioned above, would this be wise to mention this or should I not say it or perhaps word it differenlty, by simply getting to the point my previous CC was a complete act of fraud and not on my behalf?
Oh just for reference, I can provide documents of proof for all this should I need to include so much detail in my appeal.0 -

Have they given you anything to work with? When I've been rejected before, they only seem to give vague, generic reasons - if at all.0 -
When I was declined for my Ulster Bank card I appealed and was asked to send it 3 months of bank statements. This helped them reverse their decision.0

Not really, other than the generic "You didn't meet our credit rating score" which was based on what's in my credit report. So I guess it would be as above, just clarify all the negatives.
Would it be a good idea to include say the last 3 bank statements without being asked or wait and see what they come back with after my initial appeal?0 -
From memory, and it was a while ago, I did send copies of savings statements; I don't think it can do any harm sending copies of bank statements to them.
However, if you have adverse info on your credit file, especially as it was not your fault, then you might want to consider adding a notice of correction to your file which would force lenders to read the statement.

Yes, I'm well aware of that. Due to the complexity of the issues I can't do that right now but certainly shall once everything is remedied. Thanks again, think I'm all set for my appeal now0 -

I've no idea whgat to send them as I've never appealed. I just took the view that it's as much their choice who they decide to do business with as it's my choice who I do business with.0
