Hi,
I know this is probably a daft question ,but I have a gas meter in a white box on the outside wall of my house. It has been there since I moved here 10 years ago. The drop down flap that you have to open with a yellow key is constantly dropping down, at the moment I have got a bit of sticky tape holding it up and it looks horrible. I wonder where I could get a new one from .I think it is the plastic locking bit that is U/S.Any ideas.

Mine blew off in a high wind,i did get it back, but it was damaged, and i was wondering the same thing....but i rang either the Gas or Electric company involved (can't remember which) and they came out and replaced it.Sponsored by Tesco Clubcard Points !!0

Likewise mine got damaged and the meter reading guy just replaced it - he said it happed a lot and he always carried a couple of spares.
As a temporary measure I used 'Blue Tac'.0 -
Which power company are you with - I rang mine and they said the box was my responsibilty to maintain and I could buy a new one at B&Q! Been round the DIY shops but no-one sells them. My electricity box door doesn't stay shut and is sellotaped up - despite the fact it looks awful, surely its a safety issue if it comes open in the rain?? Any ideas on how I can persuade the power company to come and fix it??0

Some charge & some don`t. I think it it deemed to be part of the house & your house insurance should cover it.
I think you may be able to get adoor at Jewsons.0 -

I am with BG but I don't think each utility company have their own meter readers do they?
As said above, a lump of Blue Tac is pretty good and is hardly noticeable.
My house insurance has a £50 excess. Even if it didn't making claims for minor damage like that is a sure fire way of increasing your premium.0 -
Read somewhere, perhaps here, that the readings are lower in low temperatures, so leave the door open just before the meter man is due. Of course it will even out in time, and doubt you would save much.0

My neighbours meter cabinet door is off its hinges and just leans against the wall. We are Housing Association tennants and the painters came round last year to paint all the outsides, they painted the door.

call you supplier, i work for npower and have 1 of those keys in my draw, it's worth a try. we get them from meter reading services i thinkConverted comper to MSE. Thank you for all your answers!0

by the way the meter readers we send out are independent, they work on behalf of your suppiler and also on behalf of transco. people like acuread ( i think thats how it's spelt) they are emplyed by transco.
Whenever i send a meter reader out which i do a lot i have to put it on the meter readers system through transco.Converted comper to MSE. Thank you for all your answers!0 -
your box is your own maintainance, and anything around it. if you brake your meter through your own fault or you want to move it you can be made to pay, if its a meter fault not down to you then its not up to you.Converted comper to MSE. Thank you for all your answers!0
