Dilemma with Speakers!

Basically as some of youse may know, I ordered a dell studio 15, thing is I dont know what sort of sound card it has on it? But I do know it has two headphone jacks - 3.5mm I think lol dozey.gif

I wanted to buy the above Logitech X-540 speakers, so will this work by just plugging it into one headphone input or not? Or do I need an external 5.1 soundcard?

Yes - reading the specs, it simulates 5.1 surround from a stereo output, so it should work from a laptop headphone output.

However, you would almost certainly get a better quality of surround sound from an external USB-connected 5.1 soundcard, though it's only really an issue if you want to watch DVDs and the like on your laptop on a regular basis.

If it's got a digital output it may be better to take that straight to the input of a separate AV processor and drive some proper speakers. That would be a bit more expensive than £55 though!
