well i was trying to be organised today and decided it would be a good idea to get the food shopping out the way minus the veg! had my morrisons £20 voucher and thought it would buy me a large turkey! its huge feeds 10-12
anyway it will not fit in my freezer its around an inch too big!! its in my fridge right now still frozen solid and im wondering how long it will be ok in there for? i have turned the fridge up to make it a bit colder?
what do i do?? leave it in the fridge or take it out leave it to defrost and cook it?? i really dont know what to do and dont want to spoil dinner and feel stupid:o

I think I'd be inclined to defrost it, cook it and get it sliced up and portion it up in the freezer....just look at it as a job done rather than an disaster."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0

Fresh uncooked meat 5 days. It will prob take 2 days in the fridge to defrost. I wouldn't want to make that call!!
Do you know a friendly butcher who can portion it for you while its still frozen so that the smaller bits will fit in your freezer.0 -
TBH i think it will take longer to defrost honestly its huge!! but will cook it, portion up and see it as a job done! give me a bit more time to prepare eveything else! and run after kids lol!!
i couldnt believe it when it wouldnt go in have spent the past few weeks emptying the freezer to restock with good food and get rid of all the bits and pieces that have built up!
thanks!! think i just needed reassuring and pregnancy hormones make everything seem like a huge disaster!!!What's for you won't go past you0 -

we have phoned round everyone and they all seem to have the same drawer like freezer rather than chest so it wouldnt fit? have just moved to this area and dont really know anyone so i cant really ask lol!
am sooo annoyed at myself as i thought i would try and makes things a little easierWhat's for you won't go past you0 -
I think I'd let it thaw then cook it and freeze it sliced too. Think of the stress you'll be taking of yourself on the big day - time to make proper turkey stock too, from the carcase as well as the gibletsPlease forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

Did you try taking the drawer out and just sitting it on the shelf? I tried fopr ages the other week trying to jam it shut and the OH just took the drawer away and it all fitted in :rolleyes:All comments and advice given is my own opinion and does not represent the views or advice of any debt advice organisation.

You'll probably find that the turkey could take up to 48 - 60 hours to defrost right the way through. If you keep it in the fridge, you can probably keep it for another 24 - 36 hours after it's defrosted before you'd have to roast it, especially if you've turned the temp of the fridge down.

i put frige back to nomal as i thought it can defrost and ill just cook it one less thing to do christmas day!!
i took the drawers out and its been defrosted etc but still couldnt get the thing in, was worried if i pushed too hard it would break the freezer and as its an inbuilt one it would be a nightmare! luckily i have 2 fridges in the kitchen so one has the turkey and juice/alcohol the other food lol
thanks for the suggestions i just went into panic mode, am seeing the funny side today but could have cried yesterday! What's for you won't go past you0 -

i do this when i'm feeding crowds.
My tip is to freeze the meat in chicken/turkey stock: the meat ends up being really tasty and juicy...much nicer than freshly cooked!"Finish each day And be done with it.
