Attention all Scottish students!
Travel Expenses can now be claimed online from the 16th of Dec!
I have applied for mine, which came to £520!
You can track your claim online, and it should only take about 21 days to reach your bank account.

You don't always get what you claim for, last year i claimed £500 and only got £340 back, but it's better than nothing, and it's FREE!
I will keep you all informed of any updates about my claim, and when/how much i get!
Mines will be going towards paying off my store cards when i get it!:D

SAAS don't pay the first £155 of any claim, so if you had claimed £500 you would only get £345. Still worth doing though!0 -
i got £365 in yeterday! wow 3 days after applying and its in my bank0

Is it a one-off payment i.e payment now for the whole year or do you get a payment at the end of each term?0
-
Yes it's now for the whole year, you estimate the costs for the rest of the year

I got a payment through yesterday for £133 from the saas, not sure if this is my travel expenses, but i'm not waiting on anything else from them. Is there a route to appeal the travel expenses?
I'm in uni full time 5 days a week and travel more than 100 miles a week there and back! Not sure how they have calculated the £133?The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
You could contact them about it, contact details are on the website. I know someone who has done that in before. Be prepared to show proof of travel in the form of tickets or receipts.0

you have to use the cheapest possible method of travel (example bus not train), you need to buy the cheapest ticket (i.e a 4 weekly instead of a return every day), you can only claim for journeys that are not within "reasonable walking distance". You can have 2 single journeys between your term time address and your home address per term (so 4 singles really).
£155 of each claim is deducted as you are expected to pay this with your loan/bursary. So your £133 award is based on a claim of £288. If that's not right then phone SAAS and ask.0
