No its just a continual debit from my account
Just checked my LloydsTSB account and my payment shows up as "DEB" and "AOL BROADBAND" on my statement and not a "DD" - and hence there is no Direct Debit in the DD screen to cancel.
This is because you have given AOL permission to DEBit your account rather than use a Direct Debit.“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”0 -
AOL are wll known for this kind of stuff up. If you threaten them with court action and the newspapers they always back down as they don't want the negative publicity. Escalate the call to a supervisor and tell them to sort it with 7 days or you will file with the courts to recover all money and take it to the papers as well to warn others out there. But be prepard to file if they don't back down. This is just too much trouble for the customer service advisor to bother with. Good luckWow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted

I had the same problem with AOL after 3 years they finally sorted it our BUT I never got the money back..over 250 pounds.
I signed up and when you do they used to ask for your switch card details NOT a direct debit so the bank cannot cancel it only you can and believe me I tried..
Finally got someone who looked my account up and said "it's showing here you've only ever been online with us for 22 seconds.."
this was correct and they promptly shut the account down but they did it so well they wiped all knowledge of it from their system so I tried unsuccessfully for 6 months to get a refund then gave up..:o too much else going on
They rely on people being naive when they first get their computer.0 -

You have proof of money taken it may not be too late to claim this back. I know its a lot of hassle but AOL need to sort themselves out and the only way they will is by those such as the OP and yourself taking it all the way to recover the money taken in error.Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

As someone who used to work for AOL I can tell you for a fact that they can look up the access logs (ie log-on time) of any account. Ask to talk to a 'COS supervisor' and get them to look up your time online. If you don't have an AOL broadband account then it'll obviously show as zero and that should persuade them that they've screwed up their billing.“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”

I had the same problem with AOL -
I set up a free trial account and forget all about it
I tried to cancel thorugh the bank - couldn't
I contacted AOL so many times to cancel - they said they could not find this account. I sent banks statements the lot etc - they still said they could not find the account so continued to charge me.
This was from a free trial which was never used and forgotten about until I saw my banks statement - what a cheeky thing for AOL to do? I seen in may forums that people's cancellation request where ignored.
I do want that money back couple hundred pound would help - but scared of going to court on groundsstudent loan : £7083  2. Halifax : £661; Capital One :£297, BarclaysCard :£370 ; Barclays Bank CDL : last payment due 2013 ; AIM 1 : £PAY OFF CREDIT CARDS @ £70PW for the first 3 months of new job
Saving aim : £12000 per year Nov 2011 - Nov 2012 (£250 pw)0 -
I think losing your card will solve the problem.
I have a transaction like this every mth (a legit payment tho) And when my card expired and i was sent a new one, I didn't even think to call the company and let them know card details had changed. They called me after two mths of missed payments ( apprently they give you a chance about missing one payment LOL)
Mine was as switch card and I don't know if the security number changed but the issue number certainly did.0
