Varifocals not as good as claimed

I bought a pair of varifocal spectacles from a high street opticians and was offered their own brand of lenses rather than the Varilux lenses I normally buy. I was told that they were cheaper and that some people believe them to be better. I was told that if I didn't like them I could bring them back, pay an extra £20 and get replacement Varilux lenses.
After one month, I am convinced that the lenses I was sold aren't as good as Varilux equivalents, so went back today and asked for the agreed exchange. They tried to talk me out of it, claiming that their own brand was better. I explained that they had agreed to exchange them, but was told to go back on Saturday, because the store manager had to ask his regional manager for permission to make the exchange. I have agreed to do this, but can anybody tell me what point of law I can quote if they say no? I suspect they will try to renege on the earlier agreement, so need any help you can give so I can shock them a little into complying!

It's simple contract law - they made a contract (all be it a verbal one) that if you didn't like the item you could return it and upgrade for £20. Now the tough part - proving they offered that, was anyone with you or did you get that in writing?

Cant help you , but I certainly believe you. Was informed that the Varilux lenses. were the very best . Heared the sales pitch , then informed them that I thought my Zeiss lenes were 'fairly good' They did not bother with trying to finish their sales pitch. But I can say, their prices ( with the better lenses !!!) were still 20% cheaper than other quotes I had.
